Job Overview
Mercor is looking for experienced Full-Stack Software Engineers in India to join a cutting-edge Generative AI team working with a leading AI lab.
In this role, you will contribute to software development around frontier AI models, building and shipping full-stack applications, services, internal tools, and supporting infrastructure. You will work with modern programming languages and technologies while integrating pre-release AI model APIs into real software systems.
The role is suited to software engineers who have strong production experience, can work across the technology stack, and are comfortable quickly understanding unfamiliar codebases and delivering working solutions.
You will work closely with the AI lab’s engineering manager and other engineers on fast-moving projects where requirements may evolve quickly.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Stack Software Development
- Build and ship full-stack applications, services, and internal tools.
- Develop production-quality software using technologies such as Python, Java, Rust, C#, C++, and TypeScript.
- Work across backend services, APIs, frontend applications, databases, and cloud environments.
- Develop software that can exercise and test the capabilities of advanced AI models.
AI Model Integration
- Integrate pre-release AI model APIs into working software applications.
- Build supporting components around model integrations, including tool interfaces, evaluation harnesses, and telemetry.
- Develop software that allows AI model capabilities to be tested in realistic application environments.
Debugging & Technical Evaluation
- Diagnose software, model, and integration issues encountered during development.
- Identify different failure modes and technical issues.
- Document findings clearly and translate engineering observations into useful written feedback for AI research teams.
- Evaluate whether systems and integrations are working as intended.
Rapid Prototyping
- Prototype solutions quickly against changing or evolving requirements.
- Deliver functional increments without requiring extensive specifications upfront.
- Adapt quickly to new codebases, technologies, and project requirements.
Engineering Collaboration
- Work directly with the engineering manager and other engineers.
- Contribute to consistent code quality and technical standards.
- Participate in architectural and technical discussions.
- Maintain clear and useful technical documentation.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience building and shipping production software.
- Professional experience working at a recognized, top-tier organization.
- Strong production experience in at least one of the following:
- Python
- Java
- Rust
- C#
- C++
- Working proficiency in a second programming language.
- Hands-on full-stack development experience.
- Experience with backend services and APIs.
- Experience with a modern frontend framework such as React or an equivalent framework.
- Experience working with relational or document databases.
- Experience with cloud deployment.
- Ability to understand unfamiliar codebases and begin contributing with minimal ramp-up time.
- Demonstrable career progression in software engineering.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain complex technical decisions.
- Availability to work at least 40 hours per week during weekdays.
Technical Skills
Candidates should have practical production experience across several areas of modern software engineering, including:
