Mercor is building a network of qualified legal professionals who can contribute their legal judgment and expertise to projects involving the training and evaluation of advanced AI models.
This is a standing talent-network opportunity rather than a single fixed job opening. Lawyers who qualify are added to Mercor’s legal network and may be invited to specific projects when their practice area and experience match the requirements of a project. Each project can have its own compensation, hours, scope, and client requirements.

What the Work Involves
Legal professionals in the Mercor network may be matched with projects involving areas such as:
Legal Drafting
- Draft legal documents such as motions or briefs based on a given fact pattern.
- Develop or assess reference answers against which AI-generated legal work can be evaluated.
- Apply legal reasoning to determine whether a proposed argument or document appropriately addresses the facts and applicable law.
Contract & Discovery Review
- Review AI-generated contract and discovery work.
- Assess whether contractual provisions accomplish what they claim to accomplish.
- Evaluate privilege-related decisions.
- Review whether legal citations adequately support the propositions for which they are used.
Legal Reasoning & Analysis
- Evaluate whether an AI model has correctly stated and applied the law.
- Identify situations where an answer may appear legally sound in general but would not succeed because of the applicable forum, standard of review, or specific facts.
- Identify weaknesses, inaccuracies, omissions, or reasoning gaps in AI-generated legal analysis.
- Clearly explain the reasoning behind legal conclusions and evaluations.
AI Evaluation & Feedback
- Assess AI-generated legal work using professional legal judgment.
- Identify where an AI system has correctly or incorrectly interpreted legal principles.
- Provide structured reasoning and feedback that can help AI research teams improve model performance.
- Flag ambiguous instructions or situations where additional clarification is required.
Required Qualifications
- J.D., LL.B., or LL.M.
- Current license to practice law.
- Professional experience in one or more of the following:
- Litigation
- Transactional law
- Regulatory practice
- Strong legal research and analytical abilities.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain legal reasoning and conclusions.
- Comfort working on ambiguous or open-ended legal tasks.

How the Mercor Talent Network Works
Candidates apply by submitting their resume and confirming where they work from. They then complete a short AI interview, which the listing states takes approximately 20 minutes.
Mercor verifies the candidate’s professional background and legal license before adding them to the relevant legal network.
When a project requires a particular legal specialization or experience profile, Mercor may invite matching professionals from the network to apply for that specific project. The individual project listing will provide the applicable rate, hours, client information, and other requirements.
What to Expect
This talent-network listing does not itself represent a conventional accept/reject hiring process.
After joining the legal network, qualified professionals may be contacted when a project matches their background. The timing can vary depending on the availability and requirements of active projects.
Completing the relevant domain-expert interview and joining additional Mercor networks for which a professional qualifies can increase the number of potential project matches.
Contract & Payment Terms
- You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
